Researchers chose pulsed Nd:YAG parameters to protect glass-to-metal seals.
A 1997 study showed high peak power and low pulse energy weld pacemaker batteries at equal size and lower temperature near glass-to-metal seals, which can be used to assure hermeticity.

A review reports laser welding causes less distortion than soldering.
A 2018 review reports that laser welding's narrow heat-affected zone causes less distortion in dental prostheses than soldering, which needs several preparation steps that each add distortion.

A 2014 study in Applied Mechanics and Materials repaired a gas turbine blade tip using pulsed laser build-up welding, then produced micrographs of the repaired surface.
